Course description
What will I learn?
There is a saying - "a good bricklayer is never out of work".
You will gain the skills to become a good bricklayer. Good bricklayers make good money. Bricklayers build new houses and repair old ones. As a trained bricklayer you could work on housing sites, city developments, domestic extensions and conservatories, new work, conversions or repairs. You might want the security of site work or possibly branch out on your own, become self employed and start your own business.
On the Diploma course, along with developing your practical skills you will learn a variety of subjects including -
* brickwork, blockwork, brick bonds
* how to read building drawings
* technical drawing
* foundations,
* calculating materials
* estimating
* communications in construction
How will I be taught?
The practical work is carried out in purpose built workshops. The academic work takes place in well-equipped class rooms.

How will I be assessed?
There are continuous practical assessments, and number of unit assessments and an end of year online exam.
What can I do after this course?
You will be initially working towards level 1 Diploma (Year 1) which then leads to the level 2 (Year 2). On completion of this award, students who find employment in this trade area can gain evidence and work towards a level 2 NVQ.
