Course description
If your favourite chair has had the stuffing knocked out of it over the years and is in need of some tender loving care, then this course is for you. We will show you how to safely use the tools, such as magnetic tack hammers, tack lifters and web stretchers, to bring new life to your upholstered furniture.The course is suitable for those new to upholstery and those with some experience who wish to improve their skills. For those new to this craft we recommend you start with a small project, e.g. dining chair or stool.The evening Upholstery Workshop is made up of 3 terms of 10 weeks. Students can enrol at any stage, where places are available. Completion of a project will depend on its size and your level of skills and experience.

Training Course Content
You will be shown the basic skills and techniques used for the traditional or modern methods of upholstery, including removing old materials and selecting replacement fabrics. Upon completion of the full course you will be able to identify and use a variety of materials used in upholstery use tools and equipment safely, identify a range of furniture styles and demonstrate a range of upholstery skills During the course you will learn traditional or modern upholstery techniques using the best method to suit your project, basic repairs – enduing the frame is sound by filling in hoes regluing joints etc. You will also learn the correct handling of fabrics and materials using the correct procedures to cut stich and fix a range of fabrics and materials such as webbing hessian animal hair/coir fibre and wadding. The safe handling of tools including magnetic tack hammers, tack lifters and rippling chisels will be covered.
