Course description
If you love pastels this is the perfect course for you. Openness to experimentation is necessary, but no prior experience is required. You will be supported in your learning through demonstrations, group/peer discussions, handouts, and one-one-tutorials. You will explore a range of pastel materials and processes. Considering the work of other artists will help you to evaluate your own creations. Do you know how to use tints, shades, soft/hard pastels, chalk pastel pencils and sticks? Come along and find out about these exciting media and techniques.

Training Course Content
The aim of the course is to equip you with the confidence and knowledge to experiment with a variety of pastel media and processes. We will look at a range of pastel drawings for inspiration. On completion, you should be able to: recognise the drawing potential of both hard and soft pastels; use pastels as a drawing and painting media; apply blending, line, tone, and scumbling in your drawings; consider composition; understand the relevance of evaluating other artists’ work and reviewing your own work.
