Course description

This qualification aims to: provide an understanding of the different types of diabetes and how they can occur, develop awareness of how the onset of Type 2 diabetes can be delayed with lifestyle changes, develop understanding of diabetes diagnosis and initial care, and develop understanding of on-going care and treatment of diabetes to control blood sugar levels.

Suitability - Who should attend?

  • Learners must be aged 19 years or over as at the start of the academic year (31st August).
  • Must have lived in the UK or EU for the last three years.
  • Must currently reside in England, in a post code outside of the Mayor or London, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City, Cambridge & Peterborough, Tees Valley, West Midlands and the North of Tyne Combined Authority NTCA.
  • If aged 19-23, must hold a full Level 2 qualification or above in any subject (e.g., QCF Diploma Level 2, five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C, two or three AS Levels, CSE grade 1 5 or more, one A Level, QCF Certificate, GNVQ Intermediate, First Diploma, NVQ Level 2, First Certificate or Principle of Learning Level 2).
  • If aged 24+ no qualifications are required.

This qualification aims to:

  • Provide an understanding of the different types of diabetes and how they can occur.
  • Develop awareness of how the onset of Type 2 diabetes can be delayed with lifestyle changes.
  • Develop understanding of diabetes diagnosis and initial care.
  • Develop understanding of on-going care and treatment of diabetes to control blood sugar levels.

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • Give you the knowledge and understanding of diabetes to support your role in the workplace within the healthcare and social care industry, whether you’re intending to work, in healthcare and social care knowledge and understanding of diabetes to support their role in the workplace.
  • Enable you to progress to other qualifications in this subject area, or within the wider area of health and social care.

Training Course Content

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • give learners working, or intending to work, in healthcare and social care knowledge and understanding of diabetes to support their role in the workplace
  • enable learners to progress to other qualifications in this subject area, or within the wider area of health and social care.

It is made up of four mandatory units as follows:

  • Understand diabetes
  • Prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes
  • Understand the initial care of diabetes
  • Understand the treatment and management of diabetes
