Course description
This practical hands-on course focuses on the techniques and strategies that may need to be applied in dealing with water-damage to collections in libraries and archives. The course will convey methods that can be deployed in dealing with both minor and major water-damage incidents that impact on books, documents and other holdings, and using case studies and worked examples, help participants to quantify their capacity and capability to deal with incidents themselves.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Have a clear understanding about safe and sensible actions in containing an incidents
- Salvage damaged books in-house where appropriate
- Understand the role of stabilisation and how to prevent secondary damage
Previous attendees commented that they had learnt ‘how much there is to think about when dealing with a disaster and how to prioritise actions’, 'the importance of preparedness, tips for emergency kits and for small scale incidents’, and ‘how to assess what we can cope with ourselves and when to call in help'. This session is limited to only 15 places.
