Introduction to Leadership and Management in Healthcare Contexts
This module offers a blended method of learning to meet the educational and development needs of healthcare practitioners who are currently in leadership and management roles or interested in exploring these roles as part of their professional development.
Aims
The aim of this module is to enable students to develop a critically evaluative understanding of the key principles of management and leadership in healthcare contexts and be able to apply these in practice.
Throughout the module, you will:
- Gain the necessary knowledge and skills to identify areas for change and development within a range of professional contexts, including educational contexts, and develop evidence-based plans that could be used to address these
- Demonstrate critical self-evaluation of roles and skills as leaders and team members
- Apply leadership and management skills to improve services in professional contexts

This is an optional module that is available to students in WMS postgraduate Masters's programmes.
Training Course Content
Module Details including Dates
Week 1: Online Asynchronous Preparation Activities
Week 2: Onsite 3 Consecutive study days
Weeks 3 - 7: Online Asynchronous – Variety of activities including group tutorials (optional), Seminars (optional), sharing presentation ideas, articles to read, etc, and self-directed learning.
Week 8: Onsite Presentations
Weeks 9 - 12: Online Asynchronous As above plus preparation for Critical Reflection submission.
Course delivery details
Duration: Blended delivery over a 12-week period
Assessment: Individual oral presentation (40%) + 2,500 word critical reflection (60%)
