Course description
The Sleep & Circadian Neuroscience Institute (SCNi), within The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN) offers an online programme in Sleep Medicine and in conjunction with this programme it is pleased to present standalone modules for those wishing to study only one or two aspects of the programme to facilitate professional practice. Modules will be available when they are running for the main programme and you will join the rest of the group at this time.
Programme details
This module will run for 7 academic weeks over the period Monday March 28th 2022 to May 29th 2022. It is expected that after completion of this module students will be able to:
- describe the prevalence, risk and impact profile of insomnia and how its classification has evolved
- appraise the role of key psychobiological factors in the expression, development and maintenance of insomnia
- demonstrate understanding of evidence for insomnia as a causal agent in the genesis of adverse health outcomes
- describe and critique the evidence-base for insomnia treatments
- demonstrate understanding of how effective treatments target key etiological and maintenance processes in the expression of insomnia
- outline and critique novel and emergent treatment approaches for the management of insomnia
