Course description
Breast Imaging
BHSc / BSc (Hons.) in Radiography or Diagnostic Radiography (normally a 2:1)ORDiploma of the College of Radiographers (DCR(R)) AND 2 years clinical experience in diagnostic imaging AND - employment with, or secondment to, a diagnostic imaging department approved by the University of Leeds - identification of a suitable clinical mentor within this department- employer's agreement to undertake the course- satisfactory interview.
Applicants who possess the College of Radiographers' Certificate of Competence in Mammography AND a minimum of 1 year clinical experience may be granted exemption from attendance for some aspects of the following modules: Science & Technology Mammography, Mammography Technique (Theory), Mammography Technique (Clinical), but will be required to undertake the appropriate range of course assessments to provide evidence of continuing competence to practice and of academic performance at Masters level.
Applications for the accreditation of prior learning for entry with advanced standing will be considered by the Individualised Programmes Panel (IPP) and must relate to specific credit. Applications from healthcare professionals without a radiography background, and from radiographers who wish to access the programme as a non-standard applicant will also be considered by the IPP.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will be currently registered with the appropriate health care professional body, where applicable;AND- Applicants will normally possess a 2:1 Honours Degree from a recognised higher education institution in health related discipline;AND- Applicants will be working in an area where agreement has been obtained to develop advanced practice skills written support from their manager and the availability of an appropriate mentor;AND - Satisfactory application and interview.Opportunities for accreditation of prior certificated learning (APCL) and/or accreditation of prior experiential learning (APEL) are available.Students for whom English is not their first language must have an overall score of 7 in the ILTS or equivalent.
Fees
Normal University of Leeds postgraduate fees apply. However, the programme is free to all NHS employees working in the area covered by the Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority as the fees are paid by the strategic Health Authority. You should always discuss any proposed study with your manager as they maintain interest in your educational and professional development.

Why study?
If you are already working as an advanced practitioner but do not have any formal postgraduate qualifications in this area, then this programme will allow you to develop your skills further and also provide you with the knowledge that underpins much of what you do. If you are not yet working in an advanced practice but you and your workplace are keen for you to develop into this kind of role, then this programme will help you to gain some of the practical and intellectual skills necessary for your new role. If you already have a Masters Degree, then this programme will enable you to develop the clinical competences necessary for an advanced practice role.
