Course description
Why study?
On successful completion you will be capable of providing clinical supervision to counsellors and other psychological therapists, individually or in supervision groups, in settings such as health and social care, education, voluntary sector organisations.
What you study?
The programme will enable the department to build on its reputation as a provider of initial counsellor training and begin to develop an identity as a provider of ongoing professional training for qualified counsellors.
It has been devised in line with the requirements for the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy's Supervisor Accreditation Scheme and students completing this programme will be well placed to submit an application.
Students will be expected when starting the programme to have made external arrangements to engage in regular supervision with at least two supervisees for its duration, and their plans for this will be discussed at interview.
Learning and assessment
Teaching is by lectures, practical classes, tutorials, seminars and supervised research projects. Extensive use is made of IT and a wide range of materials is available to enable students to study at their own pace and in their own time to enhance and extend the material taught formally.
Assessment is by course work and written exams which take place at the end of the semester in which the module is taught. Results obtained in the second and final years contribute to the final degree classification.
