Course description
The importance of infectious diseases and the need to develop new strategies to combat microbial and viral infections is a major global challenge. MSc Infection and Immunity addresses this by providing comprehensive training in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.
The course covers: established and emerging infections of global significance - focusing on bacterial, viral and parasitic infections, the human response to infections including innate immunity, adaptive immunity, allergy and immune evasion; laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases; approaches used to prevent and treat infections including anti-microbial drug design and vaccine design; biological interactions between hosts and pathogens with particular emphasis on understanding the impact of these interactions on detection and treatment.
This programme consists of 180 credits comprising:
55 credits of compulsory core research training modules
85 credits of a compulsory research project
40 credits of taught specialist infection and immunity modules
