Course description
This one-day course will provide an introduction in the basics of health research. Participants will cover the essential skills required in undertaking health research including: the formation of research questions and development of study hypothesis; writing research protocols; user involvement and incorporating Patient and Public Involvement (PPI); a short introduction into quantitative and qualitative research methods used for data collection and analysis.
The day will consist of short lectures, case studies and practical group exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their projects one-to-one with the course leaders as well as to share experiences of other delegates.
Centre for Health Services Studies (CHSS)
The Centre undertakes high quality research into a wide range of health systems and health services issues at local, national and international levels. The work of CHSS is collaborative with a wide range of partners, service users, professionals and policy-makers in health and social care in Kent, the UK and in other countries.
Led by Stephen Peckham, CHSS’s key strength is the diverse expertise and skills of the Centre's researchers who are research active in the fields of Primary Care, Public Health, Public Policy, Health Psychology, Palliative Care, Statistics, Public Engagement, Clinical Trials and Health Economics.
CHSS research staff also help, support and advise external researchers to develop and undertake research projects through the NIHR Research Design Service South East (RDS SE).
