Trauma Care

This module is for qualified healthcare professionals working in the pre-hospital and hospital emergency settings. Both new and existing staff in the emergency department or ambulance service will benefit from this module.

You must have the support of your clinical manager.

The National Audit Office (2010) estimated that there is 20,000 cases of major trauma in England each year. Approximately 25% of patients these will go on to die as a result of their injuries. Currently, Major Trauma is the leading cause of death in those under 45 years of age (NICE, 2016).

The process to improve patient care requires all healthcare professionals to develop the knowledge and skills required to meet national and local guidelines as well as the standards of their organisation and professional role.

The module will prepare you for your role in trauma care by utilising a systematic approach to the assessment and management of the trauma patient.

Upon successful completion of this module as a standalone entity, credit gained could be utilised as part of the BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Health and Social Care for level 6 and the PgDiP Enhanced Practice for level 7.
