Course description
Pressure Relief Awareness
TUVR Industrial Services' presents a training course that covers the fundamental basis and methods for pressure relief design and operation.
Aspects of pressure relief, for all stages of a lifecycle are covered, from standards & philosophies, through identification of relief events, design & selection of devices, and discharge & disposal systems.
The course will cover elements including, relief philosophies, relief scenarios, relief rates, sizing, mechanical aspects (set pressure vs design pressure, accumulation etc.)
Upcoming start dates
Suitability - Who should attend?
This course is aimed at those needing an appreciation of pressure relief in their work. The course will introduce the fundamental principles of pressure relief and will allow delegates to review pressure relief systems and documentation with an understanding of how the design engineer generated the design.
The course will be beneficial to any engineering discipline that has to work with pressure relief equipment, for example, mechanical engineers, inspectors or operators involved in inspection and installation of relief equipment.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
Attendees will gain an awareness of the fundamental assumptions and pitfalls behind pressure relief, and will also be able to carry out single phase relief device sizing calculations. More specialist areas of pressure relief such as chemical reactions, 2-phase relief, and low pressure storage will be highlighted, but not covered in detail.

The course will cover:
- Relief codes and legislation
- Relief philosophies
- Identification of relief events
- Calculating the required relief rate
- Relief device hardware
- Relief system sizing
- Installation of pressure relief devices
- Discharge & disposal
- Documentation
