Course description
The IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management training course is a 5-day globally recognised qualification aimed at anybody starting out in an environment or sustainability-focused role.
You’ll cover a wide range of environmental, sustainability and governance principles while exploring environmental management tools and skills that you can apply immediately in your organisation.
On successful completion of the course, you’ll receive the IEMA Foundation Certificate and gain IEMA Associate Membership (AIEMA) status.

- Learner Notes – includes detailed information covering each of the learning outcomes, along with supplementary information, providing you with a solid future resource on environmental IEMA Associate assessment preparation.
- Learner Workbook – actively used on the course for a range of activities and to direct note-taking, this useful resource will help guide the course and prepare you for the final associate exam
- Practice questions for the IEMA Associate Assessment – provided in your ‘Learner Workbook’ and referred to by your trainer
throughout the course.

Course delivery details
The IEMA Foundation Certificate is assessed via a one-hour, multiple-choice online examination.
It’s an open-book exam, which means you can access your course notes during the exam.
You will be given a 28-day window for submitting the assessments, typically the 1st to 28th of every month.
IEMA will provide login details if you are studying the Virtual and Classroom versions of the course and you can log in anytime during this window to take the test. Once you start the test it must be done in one sitting.
Your exam result is displayed immediately following completion, so there is no need to wait to find out if you have been successful.
