The distance learning courses can be started immediately, and are based on the live classroom training developed by university academics and experts in the renewable energy field. You will have a 3-month enrolment period to study the course at your own pace, in which time the exam for the GMC must be taken.
The Solar Photovoltaics course is organised in cooperation with accrediting body SQA and leading universities and is aimed at individuals (professionals and students) who would like to learn how Solar Photovoltaic systems work and who want to find out about the technical aspects of these systems.
The programme is as follows:
- Composition of light. Photovoltaic effect.
- Photovoltaic cells. Materials. Daily/annual energy. Positioning of the modules. Photovoltaic Energy. Photovoltaic Illumination.
- Planning and designing a photovoltaic installation. The electric load.
- Costs and evaluation of the economical solutions. Maintenance and reliability.
- Practical solutions.
- Typologies and modality of installation
- Integration of the photovoltaic modules in the building structure
- Payback time
- Economical perspectives.

£540 for the standalone course

£324 as part of the Solar Energy Consultant Expert Certificate Pathway.
The course price includes remote exam for Galileo Master Certificate; video lessons based on the live classroom training; course materials; Resource Centre access and is inclusive of VAT.
The course tutor is a university lecturer with vast practical and theoretical experience in the most commonly used photovoltaic systems and the latest technologies available for commercial and home installations.
The internationally recognised Galileo Master Certificate is provided to successful candidates of the exam, which can be taken remotely online at the end of the course (photographic ID required for exam - passport, driving licence, national identity card etc.). The teaching, which leads to the Galileo Master Certificate, is based on the European Project EMTEU (Energy Management Technician in Europe). The Renewable Energy Institute is the leading provider of the internationally recognised Galileo Master Certificate and have administered the award to individuals from 150 countries worldwide.
