Course description
Introduction
This course will help develop your knowledge and understanding of the sports and fitness industry while preparing for the next level of study. You will also demonstrate and develop the skills that will improve your job prospects, skills like communication, independent learning, problem solving, team working, organisation, leadership and interpersonal skills to name a few.
For the Certificate pathway you will be studying a total of 4 units (3 mandatory and 1 optional).
For the Diploma pathway you will be studying a total of 7 units (3 mandatory and 3 optional).
Mandatory Units
Participating in sport
Sports coaching
Developing sporting skills and tactical awareness
Optional Units
Anatomy and physiology for exercise
Strength and conditioning training
Development of personal fitness through training
Work experience in the sports industry
Assessment
You will be assessed through practical performance and a portfolio of work that you will build up over the duration of the course. You will also need to undertake at least 35 hours mandatory work experience.
Next Steps
If you complete the course successfully you should be able to progress onto the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma course.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Four GCSE grades A*-D (9-3) including English, Maths, Science and/or PE or a relevant Full Level 1 qualification at MERIT grade at least. A reference from previous school/college and must demonstrate that you practice at least one sport or fitness train.
