Course description
The aim of Arabic Upper Intermediate is to enhance students’ listening and speaking abilities through discussions on various relevant and contemporary topics in daily life. Expansion and use of vocabulary and structures are a focus at this level. Class instructions are mostly delivered in Arabic language however a mixture of Arabic and English will be employed to introduce new grammatical topics. Students are encouraged to participate in drilling practice, pair work and group work. The various skills of the language are reinforced through relevant activities in the four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students are expected to do homework and listening exercises outside the class.
There are two consolidation sessions; one in the middle of the course and one at the end of the course. Consolidation exercises aim at practicing the learned materials through different activities. Teaching methods target language skills of the whole group as well as individual learners; making sure that every student is learning according to their own learning styles.
By the end of the course learners are expected to converse confidently in the topics they have covered throughout the course. They will also be able to read relatively longer and more complex texts and convey the meaning in their first Language with much accuracy. They will also be able to write passages using the vocabulary and structures they have learned.
