Course description
This one-year course is ideal for school leavers who wish to study and gain practical experience before moving on to a Level 1 Automotive course. It is a good foundation programme if you want to develop a career in the automotive industry. The course allows you to build up your basic skills in vehicle maintenance and repair. The programme is approximately 50% practical and 50% theory. Practical assessments cover cooling systems, lubrication, engines, and general service and repair. Students are always encouraged to gain subject-related work experience.
There are several practical assessments with knowledge questions that form part of your qualification. Three weeks are set aside for enrichment. This might involve visits to London, Blackpool, Coventry Motor Museum or RAF Cosford , walking over Dovedale or the Malvern Hills, go-karting, mountain biking, golfing, table tennis, and self-defence, to name but a few. There is usually no or minimal cost for any of these activities. Once you have successfully completed this course, including maths and English, you may choose to progress to the Level 1 Motor Vehicle programme.
