Course description

Awareness is the key to prevention!

Safetyman Academy’s “Introduction to Well Control in Drilling Operations” course is specifically designed to provide new hires and existing company employees with a comprehensive understanding of well control principles, equipment, and techniques. This course emphasizes the critical role of well control in maintaining safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility throughout drilling operations. It is suited for all drilling rig personnel, as everyone on a drilling site should be aware of well control equipment and its proper use.

This course will teach you the fundamentals of well control, including its purpose, principles, equipment, and techniques essential for maintaining safe and efficient drilling operations.

The Importance of Well Control: Understand the primary goals of well control, such as maintaining pressure balance, protecting the environment, and ensuring operational safety.

Key Concepts in Well Control: Gain knowledge of essential well control concepts, including formation pressure, hydrostatic pressure, fracture gradient, and primary and secondary well control.

Well Control Equipment: Familiarize yourself with critical well control equipment, such as Blowout Preventers (BOPs), Choke Manifold, Mud Gas Separator, and Kill Line.

Well Control Techniques: Master well control techniques like the Driller’s Method, Wait and Weight Method, and Volumetric Method, to regain control of a well in the event of a kick or loss of primary well control.

Drilling Well Control for Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S): Learn the properties and risks of H2S, and understand the importance of implementing proper control measures, including gas detection systems, adequate ventilation, personal protective equipment (PPE), and H2S-specific well control procedures.

In less than four hours, this course helps provide a basis for developing a culture of well site drilling safety safety and well control among the drilling team whilst performing their duties.
