Course description
Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools:
The course comprises eleven mandatory units:
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults.
- Schools as Organisations.
- Support Learning Activities.
- Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour.
- Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people.
- Support assessment for learning.
- Engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings.
- Support children and young people’s health and safety.
- Understand child and young person development.
- Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people.
Each student is asked to complete a number of tasks based on their work in schools. These tasks will then build into a portfolio of evidence submitted at the end of the course. There are no formal examinations.
ASSESSMENT
All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables the learner’s workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification. This course requires an assessment of your practical skills within your working environment. It is essential that you secure a placement that can provide you with a suitably qualified teacher and workplace assessor who can observe you, comment on your skills and write a report to meet the assessment requirements.
This direct observation will be used as evidence towards your qualification. Methods of assessment could include:
- Direct observation of practice
- Witness evidence when directed by the sector skills assessment strategy
- Professional discussion
- Reflection on own practice in real work situations
- Written assignments
COURSE DURATION
Once enrolled, you will have *one year to complete this course, which will allow you to work at your own pace, without the pressure of tight deadlines. During this course, you will need to complete a recommended 100 placement hours. You will also receive 12 months of tutor support for the course so you can feel confident that you’ll get the help you need. Studying around your work and family commitments has never been easier.
*If attending classroom-based classes the course will take 6-9 months.
STUDY METHOD
*Please note this course will initially be delivered remotely online and work placement assessment, will be undertaken once restrictions have been lifted by the Government.

COURSE OUTCOMES
At the end of this course, successful learners will receive a Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning. This means that you will achieve a Level 3 Certificate qualification on National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
