Course description
Drama for Confidence at Hillcroft: This beginners course consists of classes that combine acting, body, movement, voice and speech in order to improve your confidence and wellbeing. The teaching is practical, incorporating some basic theory. Throughout the course there will be opportunities to explore the dynamics of self and the emergent feelings, which we can use in the space as a means to give self-management and improvement of wellbeing.
We will explore the creative principles and techniques in acting, and how to get behind a role. We will be using improvisation and devising to create our own work, or expanding on pre-written scripts. The classes will incorporate finding our voice this will include breathwork and making noise! As a group we will be working as an ensemble and there will be some rehearsal, and if the group or individuals wants to devise a final Showcase Performance on a small scale then we will do that too. Each class will provide plenty of opportunity to practise your new acting skills under the friendly guidance of an experienced tutor, ensuring you feel comfortable and get the most out of your course.
Each week we will experiment with getting comfortable with voice techniques and learning to breathe.
Learning about the physical space and how we can move within it. Learning to play in drama, using objects within the metaphor.
Learning to express ourselves to others drawing on this to work with characters - exploring tension.
Learning about different scripts and how to interpret them to create deeper meaning.
How to work as a team, rehearse and take direction.
By the end of the course:
You will have worked in a group to devise and create different pieces of work
Been able to share your process and understanding with others and gained in confidence
Learnt some drama techniques which you can apply in life too!
* the Hillcroft and RHACC courses will vary slightly in content.
At Hillcroft the weekly sessions will consist of enjoyable drama games
