What will I learn?
If you are looking for an informative guide on how to use your DSLR camera, bring it along to this comprehensive introduction. Over a term you will become increasingly familiar with the various settings on your camera equipment. Our course is designed to give you a better understanding of what your camera can do and how to do it. The introduction covers the basic controls, making you more confident with the camera, while also illustrating and putting into practice what effect these controls have on the photograph. This course is geared towards getting you more comfortable and confident with the apparatus you have, and ultimately taking more satisfying and considered photographs. This basic course will teach you about the controls on your camera, what they do and how to set them. Each week a new technique or approach will be explored with practical guidance, from turning the camera on, to printing the final photograph. More specifically, the course will cover the basic principles of how photography works, the digital functions on your camera and how they can be used to improve your photography. You will explore various focusing options, how to compose images effectively and the role of light. You will be reviewing your photographs on your camera, transferring them to a computer, resizing and cropping to enhance the picture before getting them ready to print. • You will learn to understand Aperture, ISO and Exposure • You will learn how to shoot landscapes effectively • You will learn how to work with lines and patterns in photography • You will practice how to capture and freeze movement with shutter speed • You will learn how to set up and improve portraits
What do I need to know?
No photography experience required. The ability to use a computer would be an advantage. Level 1 literacy and numeracy recommended.
