Course description
This course is for you if you want to develop a career as a teaching assistant, this course will help you gain a professional qualification and the skills and knowledge necessary for supporting teaching and learning in schools at this level. It may help with employment as Level 2 is normally the minimum requirement for anyone seeking employment in this field.
You will gain an understanding of some of the basic principles of support work in schools including: Child development; How to work in a team, communication and relationships; How schools work as organizations; Practical support strategies; Safeguarding and health and safety in a schools setting. You will also have the opportunity to reflect on your personal skills and develop a personal action plan.

Suitability - Who should attend?
An interview is essential for this course. You need to have: Excellent spoken and written English - to at least Level 2; the time and commitment necessary to complete at least 90% attendance, home study and a written portfolio of evidence. A placement is essential for this course. You will need written confirmation from your school that you are supporting teaching and learning (paid or voluntary) for at least 1.5 days a week.
