Drawing and Sketching - All Levels

This course provides a foundation in Drawing and Sketching from which the learner can move on to more specialised courses, such as Painting in Acrylics. Learners who have attended our courses have progressed on to degree courses, have acquired the skills and confidence to run small businesses, sell and exhibit their work or help with their current employment. The course enables learners to explore their own artistic ability and gain confidence in valuable practical skills, whether new or renewed. This course is suitable for beginners to intermediate level.

This 30 week course covers a broad range of drawing and sketching techniques, including scaling up images, observation from life including proportion, perspective and how to make things look 3D. During the course you will use a range of materials such as pencil, charcoal and chalk pastels, with basic colour-mixing. We may also use watercolours or gouache as well as pen and ink. You will be encouraged to experiment with techniques in order to become confident in using the materials, completing a range of projects. Learners will gradually build the confidence to set their own projects and produce original and personal pieces of work. Learners will be expected to follow the course programme and attend regularly to ensure progression.
