Course description
This course is primarily aimed at workers in pre-school settings but is also applicable for a diverse range of job roles in children’s and young people’s workforce settings. You will gain the knowledge and skills necessary for working with young children and it may help you gain employment as Level 2 is normally the minimum requirement for anyone seeking employment in this field.
You will gain an understanding of some of the basic principles of child care in a professional setting including: Child development; Communication, relationships and teamwork; How settings work as organizations; Health and safety requirements within a setting and how to safeguard children and young people; How to reflect on your personal skills and develop a personal action plan; Practical skills about caring for young children.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Students need to have: Excellent spoken and written English - equivalent to Level 2; A willingness to participate in class discussion and activities and commit to personal study; The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 90%; A placement is essential for this course (paid or voluntary work) and you will need written confirmation from your setting that you are in a suitable role for at least 1 day a week.
