Course description
In this course, you will gain a basic understanding of the knowledge and the skills needed to care for young children. The course provides a useful introduction to the early years setting and can lead to progression to further child care qualifications, and may help towards gaining employment in the field. Suitable for those just starting their early years careers or for those with little knowledge of the current early years education system. An introduction to caring for children and best practice in early years settings including: The value of Play for babies and young children; Roles and responsibilities in the early years setting; The management and organisation of an early years setting. You will also have the opportunity to reflect on your personal skills and develop a personal action plan.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Students need to have: Spoken and written English - at least to Entry Level 3; Enthusiasm and a desire to learn; A willingness to participate in class discussion and activities and commit to personal study; The time and commitment necessary to complete a portfolio of evidence and maintain attendance of at least 90%; A placement is not essential but would be very beneficial.
