Course description

The EUSR Safe Control of Operations (SCO) Form of Authority renewal qualification delivers relevant, up to date information associated with the use of a Form of Authority, enabling individuals to continue to demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge and understanding.

Suitability - Who should attend?

All gas industry personnel involved in operational works on the Gas Networks who hold an in date SCO Form of Authority qualification.

  • Candidates must have nominations from their Reviewing Manager.

  • All individuals must possess the skills to perform their role, this includes suitable reading and writing abilities. 

  • For Competent Persons, candidates must have the ability, training, knowledge and experience to supervise and/ or carry out work on a site in a safe manner.

  • Candidates must have the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience to authorise works to be undertaken in a safe and proper manner.

  • All candidates must have an in date SCO Core and SCO Form of Authority qualification (previously SCO 1/2) 

  • All candidates must have a GL6 update record on their EUSR registration if their current registration is the older version of this course (i.e. SCO 1/2, not the individual SCO Core and SCO PTW modules). 

Outcome / Qualification etc.

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • State the purpose of a Form of Authority and identify when one may be used

  • Identify the key information and process requirements needed for a Form of Authority

  • Recognise the importance of risk assessment and the management of change to a Form of Authority

  • Identify specific Form of Authority requirements for validity and extension, atmosphere testing, execution, handovers and completion

  • On completion of the course, the candidate will have EUSR registration for five years from the date of assessment. 

  • All content is placed within an understandable context so candidates can see how the learning materials will apply to their daily work.

  • This training course is fully interactive and specifically designed to cater for differing learning styles which means candidates are constantly fully engaged with the course content.

  • All trainers who provide this course have appropriate training, assessment and health & safety qualifications, allowing them to explain the course content clearly and answer candidates’ questions knowledgably.

  • Final Assessment- completion of the SCO Question and Answer booklet which includes multiple choice questions, true or false questions.
