The Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work course is specifically designed to meet the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for training first aiders. The main objective of this course is to train learners who want to become a named first- aider within in their own workplace.

The Highfield Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work is comprised of two mandatory units:

Emergency First Aid in the Workplace

Recognition and Management of Illness in the Workplace

All trainers who provide this course have appropriate first aid and training qualifications, allowing them to explain the course content clearly and answer candidates’ questions knowledgably.

This training course is fully interactive and specifically designed to cater for differing learning styles which means candidates are constantly fully engaged with the course content.

The practical demonstrations and exercises in this course give the candidates the opportunity to attempt first aid procedures in a supportive environment. This leads to greater confidence when required to use these skills in their own workplace.
Training Course Content
On completion of Unit 1, delegates will be able to:
-
Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
-
Be able to assess an incident
-
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty, a casualty who is choking and a casualty with external bleeding-including how to use CPR and AEDs
-
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock and to a casualty with minor injuries
On completion of Unit 2, delegates will be able to:

Be able to conduct a secondary survey
-
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, joints, muscles, as well as injuries to the head, spine and chest
-
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds or sudden poisoning
-
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
-
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis and a casualty with a suspected major illness e.g. a heart attack, stroke or seizure.

Assessment of the learning outcomes is completed through observation of the learners’ first aid skills in practical tasks throughout the course, as well as a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course.
