Suitability - Who should attend?

All staff, particularly new starters, in any workplace where a basic understanding of fire safety is required.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

The Highfield Level 1 Award in Principles of Fire Safety course consists of two main areas of learning:

  • Understand the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace

  • Understand how fire risk is controlled in the environment. 

Training Course Content

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the main components of the fire triangle

  • Identify the main causes of fires in the workplace

  • Identify ways to reduce the likelihood of a fire

  • Outline the duties of employer, employee and fire wardens in a fire

  • Identify escape routes and how to maintain them

  • Identify actions to take upon hearing the fire alarm, including using fire-fighting equipment.

Course delivery details

The course is delivered by one of our fully qualified, Highfield approved tutors, who use a variety of theoretical and practical input, including

  • Interactive presentation

  • Group and partner work

  • Whole group discussion

Assessment of the learning outcomes is through a multiple-choice examination at the end of the course.
