Course description

Life & Figure Drawing (All Levels)

This is a wide-ranging, structured course suitable for all levels and especially for those who have general drawing skills but have not drawn the figure very much. This class will look at the broader context of the practice of life drawing. In addition to working from the nude, with attention to basic anatomy, we will study the clothed figure, placing the model in the surrounding context, together with work on portraiture, and consideration of the interaction between two or more figures. The emphasis throughout is on close observation. You will also be encouraged to draw from an empathetic response to a pose and to train your visual memory. The course could be useful if you are already making paintings and want to include figures in your work. You will be taught on a whole class basis as to the theme of each session, but with one-to-one feedback during the class and regular informal group discussion and review of the afternoon's work. We will look at the work of other artists as relevant to the theme of the session. .
