Course description
This e-learning course is intended for staff involved in the planning, provisioning, and maintenance of the fibre-based (FTTH and FTTC) access networks that provide broadband services to customers.
After completing this course you will be able to describe and compare the benefits, components and operation of the three main types of passive optical network (BPON, GPON and EPON) as used in various configurations including fibre to the home (FTTH), fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) and fibre to the drop point (FTTdp).
This online course includes assessments, the results of which are summarised in a certificate published at course completion.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Those studying the more technical aspects of this online course would benefit from a basic understanding of optical fibre principles, packet switching and time division multiplexing. It is suggested, therefore, that the PTT e-learning courses "Optical fibre principles" and "Introduction to wide area networks" are studied before attempting this course.
