Training Course Content
Unit 1: Understand child and young person development
This unit will provide you with an understanding of the expected pattern of development for children and young people from birth to 19 years of age, the factors that influence children and young peoples development and how these affect practice.
Unit 2: Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people
This unit will provide you with an understanding in the following areas: main legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for the safeguarding of children and young people, as well as the importance of working in partnership with other organisations to safeguard children and young people. This unit will further provide you with an understanding of the importance of ensuring children and young peoples safety and protection in the work setting, how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused, harmed or bullied, how to work with children and young people to support their safety and wellbeing and the importance of e-safety for children and young people.
Unit 3: Support children and young peoples health & safety
This unit will provide you with an understanding of how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young peoples safety, how to recognise and manage risks to health, safety and security in a work setting or offsite visits, as well as how to support children and young people to assess and manage risks for themselves and the appropriate responses to accidents, incidents emergencies and illness in work settings and off site visits.
Unit 4: Engage in personal development in health, social care or childrens and young peoples settings
This unit will provide you with an understanding of what is required for competence in your work role as well as the ability to reflect on your own practice and evaluate your own performance. This unit will also provide you with the ability to agree a personal development plan and use learning opportunities and reflective practice to contribute to personal development.
Unit 5: Support learning activities
This unit will provide you with the ability to contribute to prepare, plan and support learning activities, observe and report on learner participation and progress, contribute to the evaluation of learning activities and evaluate your own practice in relation to supporting literacy, numeracy and ICT.
Unit 6: Promote children and young peoples positive behaviour
This unit will provide you with an understanding of the policies and procedures for promoting children and young peoples positive behaviour. It will also provide you with the ability to promote positive behaviour, manage inappropriate behaviour, respond to challenging behaviour and contribute to reviews of behaviour and behaviour policies.
Unit 7: Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
This unit will provide you with the ability to develop professional relationships with children and young people, communicate with children and young people, develop professional relationships with adults, support children and young people in developing relationships and comply with policies and procedures for confidentiality, sharing information and data protection.
Unit 8: Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
This unit will provide you with the ability to promote equality and diversity in work with children and young people and support inclusion and inclusive practices in work with children and young people. This unit will also provide you with an understanding of the impact of prejudice and discrimination on children and young people.
Unit 9: Support assessment for learning
This unit will provide you with an understanding of the purpose and characteristics of assessment for learning. It will also provide you with the ability to use assessment strategies to promote learning, support learners in reviewing their learning strategies and achievements and contribute to reviewing assessment for learning.
Unit 10: Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
This unit will provide you with an understanding of the principles of developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults, how to communicate with children young people and adults and the legislation, policies and procedures for confidentiality and sharing information, including data protection.
Unit 11: Schools as organisations
This unit will provide you with an understanding of how schools are organised in terms of roles and responsibilities, school ethos, mission, aims and values, the purpose of school policies and procedures and wider context in which schools operate. This unit will also provide you with knowledge on the structure of education from early years to post- compulsory education and the legislation affecting schools.
