Course description
On this course you will learn how to deal with First Aid emergencies specific to children. This course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and OFSTED. In order to obtain this qualification, you must attend both days and complete the two units of accreditation. You'll cover topics including:
- Responsibilities and reporting
- Resuscitation
- Fainting
- Assessment of the situation
- Head injuries
- Choking
- Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
- Diabetes
- Infantile convulsions
- Foreign bodies
- Meningitis
- Control of bleeding and shock
- Anaphylaxis
- Burns
- Eye injuries
- Heat and cold
- Asthma
- Fractures
- Sickle cell anaemia
You'll be assessed through questions your tutor will ask you during the course. At the end of the course, you'll sit a multiple choice assessment which lasts 30 minutes. Throughout the course, you'll need to demonstrate practical application of the skills and techniques you've learned in each unit. If you pass the course, you'll receive a certificate and wallet-sized card with your qualification which will last three years.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Students need to have a basic level of literacy and numeracy is advised. You must be able to kneel on the ground in order to perform the CPR technique required on the course.
