Course description

This advanced-level in-person course builds on a thorough understanding of the basic principles of SDLT. It is presented by leading expert Paul Clark, who qualified in 1970 and now specialises in providing SDLT training.

It will provide clarity on a range of challenging issues including dealing with linked transactions following the changes to non-residential rates of SDLT in 2016, the rules on rent (including overlap relief and the major changes in 2013 which have yet to find their way into the SDLT Manual), partnership SDLT and the rules relating to trusts, both of which have never been well understood.

This invaluable guide will include practical case studies to reinforce your learning.

Training Course Content

Introduction

Non-residential rates of SDLT remained constant until 2016 when they became progressive and were increased. Dealing with linked transactions has, as a result, become more complicated.

Although SDLT on rent has been around since 2003, some of the rules are not well understood, especially in relation to overlap relief, and there were major changes in 2013, not all of which have yet found their way into the SDLT Manual.

Partnership SDLT has never been well understood and few practitioners understand the rules relating to trusts.

This advanced in-person course assumes that you understand basic SDLT principles, including contract and conveyance, identifying land transactions, subsales, linked transactions, exchanges, chargeable consideration, exempt transactions and land transaction returns.
