Course description
This course will allow learners the opportunity to experience some of the varied vocational areas the college has to offer as well as improving their English, Maths, ICT and Employability Skills; enable learners to take advantage of all the facilities we have to offer, e.g. catering/hospitality and sport. Learners will be supported and encouraged to undertake a work experience placement for at least one day a week.
Topics may include: Catering & Hospitality; Running an Enterprise; Rights at Work; Health and Safety; Communication in the Workplace. Assessment is completed via a portfolio of evidence, which may include observation, Q & A, Practical or written assessments. Functional Skills assessments will take place throughout the year as appropriate to the individual. The students will work towards gaining an OCR Extended Certificate/Diploma in Skills for Work by the end of the second year.
Students will participate in enterprise activities and will be expected to complete a work experience placement of either 1 or 2 days a week with selected local employers.
