Course description
What will I learn?
This one year course offers the opportunity to work with a wide variety of art and design materials, techniques, processes and subjects and to gain valuable skills in art and design. Alongside the course you will be able to retake those all-important English and Maths GCSEs. It will help you to identify your personal strengths and your area of interest allowing you to apply to study at Level 3.
The course provides a broad knowledge and understanding of 2D and 3D Art & Design. It will help you gain skills in a variety of specialist areas, including 3D Design, Graphic Design, Fashion, Photography, Digital Design and Visual Arts. There are visits to galleries, museums and other places of interest. The programme includes Mathematics and English at an applicable level.
Students who successfully complete the course to Merit standard, along with English or Maths GCSE at C/ or above, can progress on to a BTEC Level 3 course in a related subject (subject to satisfactory reference and interview).

What do I need to know?
Level 1 Diploma in Art & Design or four GCSEs at grade E/2 or above, including English and/or Mathematics, a satisfactory reference and an applicant's potential (evidenced through an interview and portfolio) to benefit from the course. Other relevant qualifications and experience will be taken into account. A place on the course is also subject to a successful interview, a satisfactory reference and you will need to bring a portfolio of art and design work along to interview.
