Course description
This course will introduce you to the intermediate skills which you will need for your chosen service. It will be a mix of theory and practical sessions and you will need to buy and wear the course uniform during your time at college. The qualification will develop learner's skills and personal qualities in preparation for all areas of employment and provide a basis for further study and motivation towards career development. Another aim of this qualification is to promote positive attitudes and responses to differences in gender, social and cultural backgrounds and abilities of individuals. The units covered may include: World of work - how to get the job you want; Physical fitness - reaching the level needed; Team work and problem solving; Map and compass work; Competitive sports; Adventurous outdoor activities. On completion of this course, you could progress onto BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services (subject to meeting the entry criteria which includes achievement of the Level 2 at Distinction grade). Career paths may include: Police Force; Air Force; Fire Service; Prison Service; Security.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Four GCSEs, at grade D/3 or above including English and Mathematics, or a BTEC/NCFE Level 1 at a Pass grade plus English and Maths GCSE or Functional Skills. Successful interview and satisfactory reference are also essential.
