What will I learn?
This level 1 qualification will help you get your first job in the hospitality sector, or enable you to learn, develop and practice the skills required to get started and progress your career in the travel and tourism sector. You will learn about many aspects of the industry and gain valuable practical and teamwork skills. The qualification covers various routes, including cookery, food service and the hospitality industry as a whole. This introductory qualification is also ideal for anyone looking to work in a number of travel and tourism roles including holiday representative, tour guide, tourist information centre assistant or travel agent.
This course allows learners to develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or progression to Level 2 studies in the hospitality or travel & tourism sectors. The units studied may include: Introduction to the hospitality industry; Customer service in the hospitality industry; Hot beverage skills/Food and beverage service skills; Prepare and clean a food area and appliances; Basic food preparation and cooking; Preparing and displaying salads and sandwiches for service; Assisting at a hospitality event; Introduction to personal workplace skills; The UK travel industry; The UK tourism industry; Customer service in the travel & tourism industry and Locational Geography. Students who achieve the qualification and Functional Skills or GCSE Mathematics and English will be able to progress to the Level 2 programme.

Suitability - Who should attend?
What do I need to know?
Applicants should be aged 16-18 and hold four graded GCSE's. A satisfactory reference is required and applicants will undergo an interview to assess their suitability for the course.
