Course description
The qualifications of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) are aimed at those wishing to qualify as a legal practitioner or move towards a career as a solicitor. This qualification is also available as a Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice.
Successful completion of the first year leads to the Level 3 Professional Certificate in Law and Practice; upon successful completion of the second year you will be awarded the Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice. Level 3 is divided into two parts the Certificate and Diploma in Law and Practice. For further information, the CILEx Careers & Qualifications Guide is available to download at the foot of this page. Level 3 is a two year course. Five units are studied which include: Introduction to Law; Legal Research Skills; Contract law; Civil Litigation; Client Care Skills. Upon successful completion of all five units students will attain the CILEx Level 3 Professional Certificate in Law and Practice. Year 2 requires the completion of a further five units including: The Law of Tort; Criminal Law; Land Law; Conveyancing; Employment Law. Upon successful completion of all five units the student will attain the CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice. The course aims are for you to qualify as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, obtain access to the legal industry and/or to progress to the Solicitor's Legal Practice Course and qualify as a solicitor.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Entry qualifications are dealt with in CILEx publications and any exemptions must be authorised by CILEx in writing before students enrol for the course at this College. For Level 3, students must have four passes in GCSE at grades C or above (one of the four subjects must be English) or, if over 21, entry as a mature student is considered on its own merits. Students over 25 do not have to meet specific requirements but must be authorised by CILEx before enrolling.
