Course description
This course is for students who have successfully completed and passed the BTEC Level 390 Credit Diploma. An Extended Diploma is a practical, work-related course. Your assignments are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career. This qualification is equivalent to three A Levels, which means that when you have finished the course you may choose to go into full-time employment or higher education.
Students study a number of units including:
- Research Perspective
- Safeguarding Adults and Promoting Independence
- Health Promotion
- Public Health
- Physiological Disorders
- Plus a reasearch project
On completion students progress to an university degree e.g. Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Health, Midwifery or employment in hospitals, residential homes and health centres.

Suitability - Who should attend?
This course is a step-up from the 90 Credit Diploma in Health and Social Care which you will have successfully completed and passed in order to progress to year two. Selection is by interview with the course tutors and a satisfactory reference is required.
