Course description
The Level 390 Credit/Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services is a one year programme will give you an insight into the different uniformed services, from fire-fighters, the army and the police to mountain rescue. This qualification will help you understand the importance of team work and effective communication within the Public Services. The natural progression is to the Year 2 Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Public Services
This course provides learners with an excellent grounding in the skills and knowledge needed for a career in uniformed services or progression on to the next level.
The units covered include:
- Government, Policies & the public service
- Leadership and Teamwork in the public service
- Citizenship, Diversity and the public service
- Understanding discipline in the uniformed public service
- Exercise, Health & Lifestyle
- Skills for land/water based outdoor and adventurous activity
- Instructing Physical activity
- Land navigation by maps and compasses
Employment into various uniformed and non-uniformed public services e.g. the army, police, firefighters and custodial care or progression to Higher Education.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Four GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, which must include English Language and Mathematics or a Level 2 NCFE Entry Diploma in Uniform Services at Distinction grade plus successful completion of GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent), an excellent reference and a successful interview.
