Course description
What will I learn?
This course enables you to develop an understanding of all things visual. You will learn traditional drawing and painting skills as well as new media techniques and theoretical terms. You will be encouraged to look at a broad range of artists and to review your own work in relation to the artists you have studied. There is an important written component to the coursework which necessitates analysing your own work as a way of improving and developing it. The Advanced GCE in Fine Art is a two year programme leading to the production of two components of work made in the second year. Component 1 forms 60% of the overall A level grade and is made up of a Personal Investigation and includes a piece of written prose which constitutes12% of the overall mark. Component 2 is Externally Set and forms 40% of the overall A level grade, culminating in a 15 hour timed exam. Art combines well with other creative A level subjects including Photography, and is an essential requirement for creative courses at art colleges and universities. There are many opportunities in our design conscious world for careers which use the skills you will develop.
