Course description
This Apprenticeship pathway develops knowledge and skills relating to the Early Years Educator (i.e. those working with children from birth to 5 years, and gaining knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years, within a setting which provides care and education for children across this age range. It is suitable for those looking to join the Early Years Workforce and those already working in the sector. This Apprenticeship pathway also supports the development of a highly qualified, well skilled workforce within the Early Years sector, and ensures that children and young people accessing services in England gain the best possible care and support.
The course is structured around four themes:
- Health and wellbeing
- Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
- Play, development and learning for school rediness
- Professional development
On successful completion of this Apprenticeship, learners can apply for a Foundation Degree programme in a relevant study area. A number of opportunities exist which can lead ultimately to a BA in Early Childhood studies.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Level 2 qualification or equivalent, preferably with some experience in Early Years. Applicants should have English and Maths GCSE one of which must be at grade C/4 or higher. Satisfactory reference and a successful interview. Good IT skills are essential.
