Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Make-Up – Level 3 Diploma
The Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up is an occupational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed theatrical media make-up artist working with performers to a high level of occupational ability, providing hair and make-up services in the media, theatre, performing arts, fashion and photographic industries.
This qualification has been specifically designed to build on existing knowledge and understanding of media hair and beauty skills and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare learners for employment as a professional theatrical media make-up artist. Learners will have their skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a professional theatrical media make-up artist including: health and safety practice; client care and communication; airbrush make-up to the face; camouflage make-up; media make-up; fashion and photographic make-up; style and fit postiche and the application of prosthetic pieces and bald caps. These units are all mandatory.
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC).

Entry Requirements:
- Must be 19 or over, must have a level 2 hair or beauty qualification and/or a successful skills test and interview.
Eligibility:
- You will need to be 19+ to take the course.

Training Course Content
You will need to cover a minimum of eight components and earn a minimum of 45 credits:
- Apply airbrush make-up to the face.
- Camouflage make-up.
- Media make-up.
- Style and fit postiche.
- Fashion and photographic make-up.
- Client care and communication in beauty-related industries.
- Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon.
- Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps.
- Relevant Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention (COVID-19).
From the optional units, you’ll need to cover a minimum of two components and earn a minimum of 13 credits.
