Spanish Intermediate-plus

Spanish Intermediate-plus: This course aims to extend and consolidate the communicative ability of students who have completed an Intermediate level and who wish to improve their spoken language. It is suitable for learners who have previously studied the language for three years or who have completed qualifications such as A/S levels or a B1 CEFR course. While full fluency in the language is not required, this course requires that students have a strong grammatical basis of topics from A1/A2 CEFR levels (present, past and future tenses, awareness of other forms such as the imperative or the gerund, pronoun use, etc.) and the ability to understand the gist from real communicative resources such as movies, the press, etc.

The focus of the course is on developing oral skills but relevant grammatical structures as required by the group will be reviewed in a practical manner. The practice of the four skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) will be combined with the introduction of current social and cultural topics from Spanish-speaking countries.

The course will offer a review of some topics from the intermediate range: past tenses & their combination, irregularities in conjugation, comparisons, conditional sentences and the subjunctive mode. This will be embedded in communicative activities and adapted to the level and needs of students.

Spanish will be the language of communication in class. As with every course, there will be a mix of levels in the classroom, but all students will be encouraged to communicate in the target language at all times.

By the end of the course, students will have increased their confidence in expressing themselves in Spanish and acquired a better understanding of topics relating to life in Spanish speaking countries.
