Course description
Electrical Design Calculations and Considerations
This online course covers a range of scenarios that require electric circuit designs. This course is intended to get the candidates thinking about each circumstance and then being able to reference BS 7671 and GN1 to find relevant information. Designers need to be able to do this to be capable of competently designing in the real world.
Topics to be covered in scenarios include:
- Circuit current
- Current carrying capacity
- Power factor (as relevant to circuit design)
- Voltage drop
- Earth fault protection
- Protective (both earthing and bonding) conductor sizing
- Thermal constraints (earth fault and short circuit)
- Energy efficiency in regard to circuit design
Learners are required to have access to a copy of both BS 7671-18 and Guidance Note 1 throughout the course. We would recommend purchasing these before you start your course
