Course description
This course is for those with a love of Italy and the Italian culture and who would like to understand and make themselves understood while visiting or working in Italy. The course will be based on communicative methods and active participation from all students will be strongly encouraged. A variety of activities will be used including role-plays, watching films, group work, games and listening to CDs. Students will also learn some basic grammar so that they can begin to manipulate the language. There will be regular homework to consolidate what has been learnt in class. The language will be taught in the context of the cultural and social aspects of Italy, with an initial emphasis on everyday situations such as ordering a meal at the restaurant or asking for directions. By the end of the course you will have covered the following topics: Greeting people, talking about yourself, ordering drinks at the bar, ordering a meal at the restaurant. You will have also studied some elements of grammar, including: The present tense of regular and irregular verbs and the use of prepositions.
