Course description
The course is based on the four main skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking in roughly equal proportions. It is aimed at those who are reasonably fluent in simple spoken and written English. In addition to listening and speaking training and practice, the course also aids those who want to improve their reading and writing skills in English. This is done, for instance, by introducing a text which is read and discussed in class. This should increase comprehension and expand vocabulary. Writing is often based on class discussions of subjects which interest the students. Grammar and pronunciation are also given attention during lessons. Although not an exam class, the content of the course is useful as preparation for the First Certificate in English. The course book is "New English File Intermediate", but this is not the only material used in class and there will be a mixture of authentic and published materials designed to develop skills in a communicative and fun way, for example through communicative games, songs and poetry. Course materials will focus on real English which students will be able to practise in the course of their daily lives. The emphasis is on interaction with other students and learning through enjoyment. Topics covered include family and friends, describing people, sport, films, heroes and icons and travel.
