Course description
The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Fashion, Business & Retail is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further study and training in a range of fashion business and retail disciplines. The qualification is designed for students who have an interest in the fashion industry providing them with the opportunity to progress into fashion design, fashion business and retail. The course is aimed at students who wish to explore and extend their interests in the fashion industry via a full-time and immersive learning experience.
Suitability - Who should attend?
UAL Awarding Body recommends that students have a minimum of 4 x GCSEs at grade 4 or above. Students are advised to discuss opportunities for re-taking English and Maths to achieve Grade 4 or above with their admissions tutor.

Course delivery details
All formative units are internally assessed including Final Major Project which is externally moderated by UAL.
Studying Level 2 Fashion, Business & Retail, will give learners the opportunities to explore the entire fashion business & retail journey from product design to shop floor, giving them an insight into the industry. The learners will gain knowledge and understanding of a wide range of sectors of the fashion industry, including fashion design, buying, marketing and creative retailing. The learners will also develop their presentation, time management, teamwork, organisation and communication skills.
All learning and practical activities are incorporated into different industry related projects delivered by subject specialist tutors. As part of the course the learners will be given the opportunities to visit galleries, exhibitions and stores for inspiration, exploring designers, brands and trends from all areas of fashion. This will provide the learners with the knowledge and skills to help them discover their talents, progress further in education and choose their career path, setting them up for their dream job.
The qualification is made up of eight units designed to give learners a deeper understanding of the fashion and retail industry as some of them are closely linked to other creative industries such as fashion and graphic design, marketing, advertising and social media. The learners will be introduced to the history and evolution of fashion retail, contextual research, research and forecast of fashion trends, methods of communicating ideas to different audiences, design and production process of fashion garments, buying and selling in fashion retailing, marketing, branding, fashion styling and visual merchandising. At the end of the course learners will apply the skills and knowledge they have learnt during the course to create and present a personal project related to fashion business and retail. All units are mandatory and must be successfully completed by the learners to gain the Level 2 Diploma in Fashion Business and Retail qualification.
Continuing Studies
The majority of students completing the UAL Level 2 Diploma in Fashion Business & Retail will progress to further study via ‘Applied General’ or ‘Tech Level’ qualifications.
The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Fashion Business & Retail is generally delivered over one year and will enable students to develop a portfolio of work that could support progression into a range of qualifications at Level 3.
Typically, students will progress to the UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma Applied General in Art & Design (Fashion and Graphic Design), BTEC Level 3 Business offered within this college or UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Fashion Business & Retail often outside this college.
