In A Level subjects which have been reformed as part of the national programme of changes to A Levels, you will take the new two-year linear A Levels. You will also sit the new free-standing ASexams at the end of your first year. In those subjects which have not yet been reformed, you will complete your AS in the first year before progressing to A2 in your second year. Subjects include:
Biology
Business studies
Chemistry
English language and literature
English literature
Further mathematics
History
Law
Mathematics
Media studies
Physics
Politics
Psychology
Sociology.
All students will study for AS Levels in the first year of their A Level course. Students normally take three or four subjects.
The AS (Advanced Subsidiary) Levels are composed of two exams which are taken in June. To complete a full A Level (A2), a further year of study is required, in which time an additional two units will need to be completed. Again, these exams are taken in June. In some subjects there is also a coursework component.
Depending on the grades achieved, students can progress onto a university degree or a BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma/Level 5 HND Diploma course at a higher education institute.
